Adventure Training is an important part of the
ATC training programme. It combines certain aspects of the general
training programme and outdoor activities. It's aim is to build
up an individuals confidence, and promote team work with an element
of adventure and fun.
The training programme covers map reading, use of a compass,
cooking, food, use of stoves and emergency procedures. Cadets
attend a 'camp' of one or two days, or even a week, putting
into practice what has been learnt and also learning new skills
ie: climbing, abseiling, mountain biking, canoeing to name but
a few.
Each Squadron has a person appointed to be the Adventure Training
Officer and they organise the Squadrons own programme of Adventure
Training. It could be in the local area or further afield such
as the Peak District or North Wales.
All the training is given by qualified people who will guide
cadets through the exciting world of Adventure Training.
Also under the heading of Adventure Training are courses for
Parachuting, Hang Gliding, Sailing, Skiing, and Outward Bound.
Each year this Wing selects cadets to participate in Adventure
Training at the ATC Adventure Training Centres at Windermere
in the Lake District and Llanbedr, North Wales.
